Congresswoman Houchin on the State of the Union

March 11, 2024

Washington, D.C. (March 8, 2024) – Congresswoman Erin Houchin (IN-09) released the following statement in response to President Biden’s State of the Union address:

President Biden’s State of the Union rant was disconnected from reality and failed to address the pressing issues facing Americans. Instead of focusing on domestic concerns like the border crisis, the deteriorating economy, and the staggering number of fentanyl deaths, the President prioritized discussing foreign conflicts and his political opponent. Joe Biden stood in the people’s House and addressed the nation, spewing invective. He attacked his opponent (13 times), Republican members of Congress, the Supreme Court, and millions of Americans who oppose his reckless policies.Attacking his ‘predecessor’ within the first minute of his speech was unprecedented and divisive. It was the most partisan SOTU that I have ever heard and insulting as he blamed Republicans for the lack of border action. Meanwhile, in the first hours of his presidency, Biden reversed President Trump's immigration policies through executive order.Over 10 million illegal immigrants have entered the United States under Biden’s leadership. It is the number one issue on the minds of Americans, yet Biden barely mentioned it.

The President had an opportunity to recognize and address the issues we currently face. He had an opportunity to bring hope to Americans on the trajectory of our nation. The only promises he made to the American people were his push for unlimited abortion all the way up until birth at taxpayer expense, involvement in foreign wars, and interference with our free markets. Rather than offering solutions to the everyday struggles of Americans, Joe Biden gave a campaign speech, filled with promises he cannot keep and devoid of practical plans to address pressing issues like border insecurity, inflation, and crime. It was clear Joe Biden was trying to reach his base to give them assurance that he has the stamina to make it through another four years. The American people don’t buy it as they see the invasion taking place at our border every day, record inflation, increase in crime, and a clear decline in mental acuity.” – Congresswoman Erin Houchin
