INDIANA – U.S Congresswoman Erin Houchin (R-Ind.-09) joins Senator Todd Young (R-Ind.) and all of Indiana’s congressional delegation in support of the state’s application to be named a Regional Technology and Innovation Hub (Tech Hub). The Tech Hub proposal, known as Heartland BioWorks, would cement Indiana’s position as a leader in biotechnology, medical technology, genomics, and synthetic biology.

The bill requires workforce development funding be prioritized for programs with proven success, like the Goodwill Excel Center in Clarksville, Indiana.

WASHINGTON – Congresswoman Erin Houchin (R-Ind.-09), a member of the House Education and Workforce Committee, voted to pass the Schools Not Shelters Act to prohibit the use of educational facilities to provide shelter or housing for illegal migrants. This would include public elementary schools, public secondary schools, and institutions of higher education.

WASHINGTON — Republicans in Washington are pushing to make sure that schools don’t become shelters for those who enter the country illegally.

Rep. Erin Houchin (R-IN-9th) is leading the charge as she brought HR 3941 to the House floor for debate on Tuesday. The bill would make it illegal for illegal immigrants and their children to be housed at schools and colleges.

Houchin said any pushes to use schools as shelters further perpetrate a “failure” on President Biden’s part when it comes to the problems at the southern border.

When Indiana Rep. Erin Houchin’s children were small, Houchin and her husband Dustin posted a one-word admonition on their front door that could be seen just as one exited: “Contend.”

“One of the things we wanted to teach the children was to contend, to go out and be bold, to pursue causes greater than yourself, and to find meaning in hard work. That is why my husband put up a little sign with the word ‘contend.’”
